The Hammers Development Lab

HARDWARE–IN-THE-LOOP

Our facility is used as a “flat-sat” environment to develop, integrate and test cFS flight software and ported to flight/commercial processors (ARM, LEON3,  ColdFire, NUC, etc.) using the RTEMS RTOS.  Using industry-standard I/O devices from National Instruments, Hammers VirtualSat® simulates flight hardware interfaces & signals for attitude control sensors and actuators for flight software development and test. VirtualSat features injection of errors and anomalies into the hardware, affecting spacecraft dynamics to demonstrate how the flight software responds and performs in flight.

Our lab also doubles as a training facility where you can gain hands on experience commanding satellites using our full featured products. Here you have the ability to see experience demonstrations and training in a real life scenario. You will have the ability to take deep dives on Galaxy, Stars, and Mercury and learn how to command a real spacecraft. Additionally we will be providing training on Core Flight System, the embedded software framework responsible for flying satellites.

We develop and test new spacecraft models used in our spacecraft dynamic simulator VirtualSat® and provide a “hardware-in-the-loop” real-time test environment using National Instrument interfaces for analog and digital signals. Hammers lab also includes Astronics Ballard Mil Std 1553 and Star Dundee SpaceWire support.
