Network and System Administrator

The Hammers Company is seeking Network and System Administrators with Linux and Windows experience. The selected candidates will join our Greenbelt Maryland team supporting the United States Geological Survey (USGS) contract which includes mission operations support of both Landsat 8 and Landsat 9 spacecraft. You will have an opportunity to contribute to the world’s longest continuously acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data used for strategic land management. Work will be performed on-site at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.

System Administration/Network Engineer candidates must have minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience:

  • Proven working experience with installing, configuring, testing and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux within an operations environment
  • Solid networking knowledge
  • Customer service experience; the ability to think creatively and communicate their ideas effectively and be capable of presenting technical concepts to audiences of various technical abilities
  • Liaison with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Solid scripting skills: developing, maintaining custom shell scripts; able to troubleshoot scripts
  • Ability to multi-task, task completion oriented person and must be flexible to work higher priority tasks that arise and be able to return to working lower priority tasks to completion
  • Extensive experience solving complex problems and creating innovative solution

 

Windows System Administrators must have expert knowledge in administration of Windows operating systems.  Install, manage and operate Windows servers and workstations.   Knowledge in virtualized server infrastructure.  Understand and configure LAN/WAN communication features.  Install, integrate and maintain SAN storage systems, Active Directory infrastructure, Exchange servers and services.  Evaluates system specifications, configures system, establishes standards, insures hardware/software compatibility and maintains workstations and MS Windows Operating Systems for stable performance.

  • Performs the daily operation of MS Windows server software to include system security, appropriate access, configuration and backing up the system.
  • Specifies network requirements, monitors LAN performance, troubleshoots networking hardware and insures system is working properly according to specifications and parameters.
  • Organizes and secures directory structure and assists/trains staff members in the use of project security, maintenance and patching requirements, associated databases and CM release procedures.
  • Serves as the Windows POC for problem reporting, incremental version updates
  • Makes recommendations for future hardware/software implementations and related process improvements, schedules, plans and performs system upgrades
  • Provides operational status as required.
  • Uses established policies and procedures and subject matter knowledge to complete complex assignments requiring originality and ingenuity performed under minimum supervision.

 

Linux Systems Administrators will be responsible for Linux administration of a virtualized enterprise solution product platform. Highlights of responsibilities:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux command level administration with excellent technical knowledge of Linux operating system commands and utilities
  • Integration of third party application software on a virtualized computing cluster
  • Command level troubleshooting of OS and associated hardware/software
  • Create and resolve change requests
  • Install, configure, test, move and or break-down systems
  • Create detailed test cases, test reports, technical reports and metrics
  • Provide detailed technical solutions
  • Perform system builds
  • Maintain the security and stability of cross domain solutions
  • Interact with customers
  • Create, modify, and remove user accounts
  • Knowledgeable of working with NFS, Active Directory, ESXi, and Kace, etc.
  • Experience with standing up and configuring RAID devices and SANs.
  • Perform Linux audit and reporting tasks
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions and work with developers to implement fix
  • The ability to implement, configure a CA root server on UNIX/Linux for user identity management, multifactor authentication using smartcards, RSA etc.
  • Command level Database troubleshooting, including Oracle, SQL, skills desirable

 

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field and minimum of 2 years of demonstrated results or equivalent experience.

 

The qualified candidate is expected to satisfactorily complete the National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
